Governor Andrew Cuomo says his administration is talking various religious organizations around the state about reopening worship services.
Cuomo says it will have to be done carefully and with social distancing in mind, pointing out that New York’s first COVID-19 hotspot in New Rochelle began when an infected person visited a synagogue. The governor says he’s encouraging churches, mosques and synagogues to consider drive-in, outdoor services.
Cuomo said the Capital District region is opening today for Phase 1 after meeting all seven of the state metrics.
By the numbers, hospitalizations and new infections continue to drop statewide. The number of deaths remains flat at 112, 82 in hospitals and 30 in nursing homes.
