Bikeshare station in downtown Philadelphia -Wikipedia

The alternative transportation advocates at Reconnect Rochester have launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for at least five bike share stations in Rochester.

The City of Rochester hopes to launch a bike share program in the spring in partnership with Zagster. But the city isn’t funding the bikeshare program. It’s up to supporters to get it up and running. The campaign on crowdrise.com is trying to raise about $9,000 a piece for five bike stations along the northern edge of downtown.

With bikesharing, people subscribe for a nominal fee and can then borrow a bike. They can leave it at another station or return it to the same point. Rochester hopes someday to have 30 or more of them in city neighborhoods.
