The annual effort to keep so many crows from roosting in downtown Rochester is underway, as wildlife biologists from the USDA’s Wildlife Services Program use fireworks, spotlights and lasers to try and disperse the roosting birds.
The methods, which include the playing of recorded crow distress calls, does not hurt the birds.
Crows roost by the tens of thousands in downtown Rochester in the fall and winter, causing a mess and damage to public facilities. Management activities will continue this week to disperse the roosting groups.
