The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says as the number of COVID cases in the general public has gone up, so has the caseload among the inmates of the Monroe County Jail.
The County Health Department reports 3750 cases over the past week. The sheriff’s office says 87 of those were in jail inmates, with 45 showing symptoms. None has needed to be hospitalized so far.
The MCSO says it tests its jail inmates weekly for COVID, and also tests staff on a regular basis. They’re working to find supplemental medical personnel for the facility. Over the last year they caught more than 120 infected staff members before they entered the jail. They’re also offering vaccinations to all inmates who want one.
