One of the three Republican candidates trailing apparent winner Pam Helming in this week’s 54th State Senate District primary election says an attempt by State Senate Republicans to quash the counting of absentee ballots has failed.
Floyd Rayburn came in second to Helming by 190 votes. He says attorneys representing the Senate Republican caucus went to court, trying to keep the 1,400 additional ballots from being counted. The judge rejected their motion and the ballots will be counted next week as planned.
Because elections boards in five different counties are involved, it will take three days verify and tally the ballots, beginning on Tuesday
