Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says an important step has been taken in fulfilling one of her campaign promises: to dissolve the county’s three Local Development Corporations.
State Supreme Court Justice Craig Doran has signed an order dissolving the LDCs, known as UTC, M3S and Monroe Newpower. Each was set up to manage a major county infrastructure project, the goal being to get those massive projects done more efficiently. But instead, they turned into a bid-rigging scandal that led to an investigation by the State Attorney General and four county employees pleading guilty.
Dinolfo pledged to dismantle the LDC system. With the order now signed, she’s asking the three LDC boards to meet and hand management of the projects back to the county. She says the county will save close to $3.5 million a year without them.
