Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says the county is partnering with business and government agencies to rebuild public interest in recycling.

The “Refresh Recycling” campaign is aimed at refreshing the conventional wisdom on recycling waste…and why it’s important. The county’s goal is to keep 60 percent of its trash out of landfills by 2025. It’s currently 38 percent. The county will be sending out better information telling people what and how to recycle.

Dinolfo says the technology of recycling has improved dramatically over the years and provides both environmental and economic benefits. About 700 people currently work in recycling businesses in Monroe County. She says studies show that every 1000 tons recycled creates about two jobs
