Monroe County Executive Adam Bello on Thursday ordered a “top-to-bottom” review of the county Probation Department’s policies and proceedures. This, after a level 2 sex offender was charged with rape on Saturday and found to be working in a corner store across the street from a school.
By law, Shadad Algaithy should not have been within 1,000 feet of a school. He’s accused along with another store clerk of trapping a 13-year-old girl in the store and raping her. Both clerks were arrested last Saturday. Bello said in a news conference that Algaithy should not have been there and he share’s the community’s outrage over the mistake.
Bello has called on Richard Tantalo, the county’s director of public safety, to evaluate all 239 sex offender cases currently being overseen by the Monroe County Office of Probation-Community Corrections. Former Rochester Police Department Deputy Chief George Markert and County Office of Public Integrity Director Jason McNair will also lead the probation assessment.
Bello says the review will be made public after he reads it.
