Monroe County’s executive and health commissioner are calling on the state to produce firm COVID-19 guidelines for outdoor festivals, after several traditional spring and summer events in the Rochester area were canceled because of uncertainty over the pandemic.
County Executive Adam Bello and Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza sent a joint letter to the governor Thursday calling for updated guidance before more summer festivals cancel.
They say recent studies have show low rates of transmission at outdoor events, especially with masking and if people have been vaccinated. They say it’s crucial for the community to find ways to come together outdoors in the coming months.
