The Monroe County Legislature voted 17-10 last night to give County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo authorization to sue New York State over the new Green Light Law. It allows undocumented aliens to apply for New York driver’s licenses.
Dinolfo claims the law is unconstitutional and forces DMV and Auto License Bureau employees to violate federal law. She expects to file suit in the next couple of weeks.
Dinolfo is a Republican. The Democratic County Clerk of Erie County is filing a similar suit. Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello, who is running as a Democrat for County Executive, says he will carry out the law as adopted by the state.
