A Monroe County Legislator says Representative Joe Morelle tried to get her fired from her job at Rochester Institute of Technology, and wants Morelle to resign.

Sabrina LaMar says she appeared on Brighton Town Councilmember Robin Wilt’s Facebook Live to talk about a program aimed at cutting down gun violence. At the time, Wilt was running against Morelle in the 25th Congressional District Democratic Primary.  LaMar says the appearance was not political, but says Morelle called her RIT supervisor to have her fired.

Lamar has filed a complaint with the House Ethics Committee.  Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren spoke out against Morelle this afternoon, saying she knows what it means for her and the city. The Mayor says she’s tired of people like Morelle using their position to abuse or silence women, and silence Black women.

Congressman Morelle’s campaign issued a statement saying: “The Morelle campaign inquired about RIT personnel appearing in political campaign advertising in their professional capacity as an RIT employee. At no time was the employee’s employment or funding for the institution raised.”
