A Monroe County Legislature committee has voted down a proposal from County Executive Adam Bello to form an independent commission to redraw the county’s election districts.
The legislature’s Agenda and Charter Committee voted along party lines, with the Republican majority of Matt Terp, Steve Brew and Sean Delahanty saying no, and Democrats Rachel Barnhart and Dave Long saying yes.
Bello’s eight-member Commission would have been tasked with redrawing the Monroe County Legislature’s 29 districts once the 2020 United States Census data becomes available.
