Democratic Monroe County Executive Adam Bello’s 2022 county budget was approved Tuesday night by the county legislature, with few quibbles from the Republican Majority.

The budget cuts property tax rate to the lowest levels in nearly 20 years, since 2003.

It also sends more funding to the County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and the Public Safety Department. It also expands programming to fight the opioid epidemic. It will add three more prosecutors to the DA’s office because of the surge in murder cases in 2021.

Bello signed the $1.28 Billion budget immediately after it was adopted. The vote was 27-2.

Majority Leader Steve Brew noted the budget contains two bipartisan amendments that he supported.
