Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo has sent a letter of support to Rochester’s State Legislative delegation, urging them to vote in favor of allowing ride-sharing services to operate statewide.
The app-based services like Uber and Lyft currently operate only in New York City. Interlinking state insurance, traffic and transportation laws written with traditional taxi and limo companies in mind effectively block them from the rest of the state. Taxi operators are trying to keep it that way.
Dinolfo is urging adoption of State Senate and Assembly bills that would amend those laws. She says the Transportation Network Companies as they’ve also come to be called have benefited other regions and will help residents and businesses in Monroe County.
