Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says “there really isn’t an issue” with her office waiving local application fees for some people who did business with the County Clerk’s office while she was clerk.
Democrat Adam Bello, who was appointed clerk when Republican Dinolfo was elected county executive, says some $35,000 worth of passport and pistol permit fees were waived for what he calls “privileged people” while she ran the office.
Dinolfo says Bello is being selective in his research, as a document he mentioned was her husband’s notary public application. Dinolfo says she gave only waivers permitted or required by law while she was clerk. She says this was good customer service and asked for an apology.
Bello immediately fired back, calling Dinolfo’s answer “disingenuous.” He says waiving the local processing fees was in conflict with state and federal law.
