The Rochester City Council will subpoena records from the city police department and the Center for Dispute Settlement in the Ricky Bryant case.
Bryant is the Rochester 18-year-old who claims he was beaten by a number of officers while leaving last summer’s Puerto Rican festival. His family claims in a federal lawsuit that Bryant was knocked off his bicycle and repeatedly hit multiple times, breaking his left eye socket. His lawyer claims the police internal investigation report on the incident is a coverup. That report went through the Civilian Review Board, but City Council President Loretta Scott says enough questions have been raised that they want to see the evidence themselves.
Council is expected to vote on the subpoena at its meeting Tuesday evening.
Police were responding to a 911 call about a man on a bike waving a gun on Remington Street after the festival. Bryant was stopped leaving the festival on his bike. The patrol officer’s union says he failed to obey police commands.
