Eight members of the Rochester City Council have signed a resolution calling for immediate discipline of the police officers involved in the subduing of Daniel Prude. The resolution, which is up for a vote at Tuesday night’s meeting, calls for anything up to termination of the seven officers who were at the scene.
The resolution says citizens of Rochester need a swift resolution to the Prude case.
Only Councilman Jose Peo did not sign off on the resolution.
Peo said in a statement Thursday night that he believes in leading with a level head, rather than emotions.
A grand jury recently decided not to bring charges against the officers involved in Daniel Prude’s eventual death. He was having a mental health emergency and was naked in the middle of Jefferson Avenue when officers restrained him, put a “spit sock” over his head and held him to the pavement. He fell unconscious and never woke up, dying in the hospital a week later.
