It’s not a done deal yet, but the Rochester City Council has set the wheels turning for creation of a Rochester Police Review Board.
By unanimous vote Tuesday night, Council agreed to set up a referendum on election day in November. City residents will be able to vote on whether they want a civilian board to take over review of police conduct in Rochester. The issue has been debated for months, and the city developed its plan through a series of public meetings.
The plan calls for a nine-member review board, to be staffed with city residents who are trained in local law and police procedure.
