The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers predicts Lake Ontario to drop by three inches over the coming month. It’s currently holding at about 248-feet-11-inches, just below the record-high 249 feet it hit in mid-May.
The latest summary from the corps says rainfall during May was almost double the usual monthly amount…192 percent of average. The mean level was nearly two inches above the all-time record high. Although they believe the water will go down three inches by July 2nd, the corps says there’s still a chance for it to go higher again before it drops for the summer. It all depends on what the rainfall does over the next two weeks.
Lake Ontario was more than two feet, or 28 inches, above last May’s level.
