The Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years surges in coronavirus cases in New York appears to be ending.

Governor Cuomo’s office says the state’s rate of transmission from one person to another is now less than one. An Rt of 1 or more means COVID-19 will spread quickly.

The Governor said elective surgeries can resume in Erie County hospitals after a decline in Western New York’s positivity rate.

Cuomo called on New Yorkers not to “get cocky with COVID,” and to continue wearing their masks and social distancing.
