At the height of the presidential election season, New Yorkers say they’re feeling the best they have about the nation’s economy since before the recession.
A new Siena consumer sentiment poll today shows New Yorkers’ index at 88.6, up more than half a point since June. The national index is 91.2. Both New Yorkers’ and the national consumer sentiment have gone above the breakeven point, where optimism and pessimism balance. That shows strength in willingness to spend on consumer products.
Poll Director Doug Lonnstrom says these are the highest confidence numbers New Yorkers have shown in 10 years. The poll was conducted last month.
