A lawsuit has been filed by Rochester’s construction unions ….. seeking reinstatement of the Project Labor Agreement for the $1.3 billion Rochester school modernization project.
Members of the Rochester Joint Schools Construction Board shot down the PLA at a meeting earlier this month. The board chair who opposed the move was ousted and replaced with an appointee of Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren, who wasn’t happy with how the agreement worked out in phase one of the project.
The Rochester Building and Construction Trades Council and Rochester Careers in Construction are suing, charging the four board members who threw out the agreement with acting in an arbitrary and capricious manner.
The agreement spells out minimum wages for the $435 million overhaul of 13 school buildings, plus how many jobs have to be filled by local union members. It also sets targets for minority and women-owned businesses.
