The State Department of Transportation has started work on the $15 million rebuild of Route 531 at Washington Street in Ogden.
If you drive that way or Route 31 to Brockport, you’ve probably noticed all the trees that were cut down earlier this year along the south side of 31. That was preparation for the road work.
The area where the expressway ends is being converted into a conventional four-way intersection with traffic lights. Instead of jogging right onto Washington Street, then left again after a hundred yards or so onto Route 31 to continue west, traffic will flow straight onto Route 31. A short stretch of the existing 31 will be cut off and end in a cul-de-sac next to the re-routed highway.
New turn lanes will be added to make getting onto Washington Street safer.
