Victor-based Constellation Brands is taking a step into the medical marijuana field.
The company has signed an agreement to acquire a minority stake in a Canadian firm called Canopy Growth Corporation. It’s a public company based in Ontario and a leading provider of medical cannabis products.
A statement says Constellation intends to stay focused on its core business of beer, wines and spirits, but wants to meet and stay ahead of evolving consumer trends. It also doesn’t plan to market medical marijuana or related products in the United States unless it becomes legal at all government levels.
CEO Rob Sands says the company has built its success on identifying consumer trends early, and this is a step in that direction.
