Southern Tier Congressman Tom Reed, a Corning Republican, announced his resignation from Congress on Tuesday. It came as a surprise to the 23rd District. Reed had said he would not seek re-election, but was expected to serve the remaining seven months of his term.
Published reports said Reed would be taking a job in the private sector with the Prime Policy Group LLC lobbying firm.
Reed was elected 12 years ago when the seat was vacant following the resignation of Democrat Eric Massa.
