Rochester Congresswoman Louise Slaughter was hailed this afternoon as a visionary who lifted the burden of everyone’s rights for decades in Congress…and whose friendship was a blessing. The late Congresswoman’s colleagues gathered in the Statuary Hall of the U.S. Capitol  for their own memorial service, honoring Slaughter who died last month at 88.

North Country Congressman Paul Tonko…a longtime friend…called her a visionary who shaped the ark of history.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was one of many speakers, saying in her memory, all members should commit to public service with her level of intensity. Senator Schumer says Slaughter was a tireless fighter who loved Rochester.

And House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called Slaughter a moral force, who was proud to represent the area where women’s right to vote got its start.
