Legislation adopted by Congress includes authorization for a new Great Lakes Coastal Resiliency Study that supporters say will look at protecting lakefront properties from flooding. United States Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand say they pushed to get the language in the bill after the flooding that hit the Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River shorelines a year ago.

Both senators say they’ll work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to see the study is funded and carried out as quickly as possible. They say this is part of a long-term effort to protect lakefront communities from more flooding.
