The State Comptroller’s Office says the Rochester City Schools seriously under-budgeted for this school year…and were on track to overspend by more than $70 million…not the $65 million the school district estimated. It estimates the district still needs to cut another $40.5 million by June 30th to end its fiscal year with a balanced budget, despite the cuts already made.

The Comptroller has issued his first report on the city school district’s finances. It finds the district was millions off in what it needed to spend on key areas including health insurance, substitute teachers and Charter School tuitions.

Superintendent Terry Dade has come up with an estimated $28 million in budget cuts, plus another $8.6 million in staff reductions which have already been implemented. The comptroller’s office says their math indicates another $40.5 million needs to be cut to balance the budget.
