An Audit from the State Comptroller’s Office says the Rochester City School District has made far more accurate budget projections for the 2020-2021 school year. The state says the RCSD has patched most of the errors it made that led it into substantial deficit spending last year, requiring multi-million dollar budget cuts last year and this year. But it says there are still some cautions.

The comptroller’s audit finds the district has made considerable improvement in its financial forecasting, with its projections largely on point. It says that’s a significant accomplishment despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Officials do say that Charter School appropriations appear to be under budgeted by about $1.5 million, and the budget contains a structural imbalance. That’s because it’s counting on the city to allow the RCSD to use $10 million meant for upgrading school buildings on its operational budget, which will require an act of City Council.
