AG Erich Schneiderman-Nicotine NewserA Rochester area trash hauling company has agreed to pay restitution to customers who paid in advance for waste removal services they never got.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Community Waste Services got into trouble when the owner passed away last year. The company manager took over and tried to keep things going but got overwhelmed. After one of the company trucks broke down a year ago, Community Waste just closed its doors and stopped answering calls and letters.

Schneiderman says his office negotiated an agreement to get more than 90 customers their money back. The manager is barred from operating another waste hauling business without first posting a $30,000 bond. He’ll pay $8,800 in restitution and $2,000 in penalties.
