A 22-year-old Clifton Springs man was arrested by Ontario County Deputies after he led them on a high-speed chase in a car with stolen license plates.
Deputies say Matthew Canales was spotted on Melvin Hill Road in the Town of Seneca. His car had a Florida license plate that had been reported stolen in Irondequoit. When they tried to stop him, he accelerated to more than 90 miles per hour, passing cars in the no passing lane to get away.
Because they recognized him, deputies let Canales go and caught up with him later at the Geneva Walmart Parking lot. When he was arrested, deputies learned he was wanted on a warrant for driving without a license from Irondequoit.
