The Rochester City School District is looking at a slimmed-down staffing proposal, with Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small saying district enrollment is now too small to support the current level of staffing.

Myers-Small says enrollment has been declining for years and fell by another 2,600 students over the past year. She has said the district is already overstaffed, and now is even more so.

At a Tuesday night meeting, the superintendent said the district as about 10 students for every teacher. She proposes to cut 36 full-time positions in a $980 million draft budget. That still comes to more than $52 million more than the current budget.

A budget meeting is set for April 1st at 5:30 p.m. and will be webcast on the district’s YouTube channel.
