The Rochester City School District will go with a hybrid learning plan for fall because of COVID-19, but with some changes from those proposed by most suburban districts in Monroe County.

City School Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small told the school board Thursday evening that she will have younger and special needs students in school part of the week and learning online at home part of the week. Older students will have online learning plans in grades five-through 12.

Myers-Small says that’s because the younger and special needs students have gone the longest without classroom instruction, and would benefit the most from it. The younger students also tend to have less access to the internet.

Myers-Small says she and her staff have worked around the clock since the governor’s office released its guidance to school districts on reopening earlier this month. She says they’ve put together a plan they believe works for the district and its student population.
