The City of Rochester is launching a drug treatment program in partnership with Rochester Regional Health to help police get people into immediate treatment.
Mayor Lovely Warren announced the Street to Treatment partnership Monday evening during a Clergy on Patrol event between Rochester ministers and police. She says it gives officers a place to take someone who says they’re willing to try rehab right away for help with their drug problem.
Mayor Warren says the city has been hit by the heroin and opioid drug epidemic like everywhere else, particularly evident in the North Clinton Avenue neighborhood. The city and the RPD worked with the Ibero American Action League and Trillium Health in setting up the program.
The Rochester Regional Health Evelyn Brandon enter at 81 Lake Avenue will be the drop off site where officers can get people directly into care.
