For decades, the City of Rochester has tried one program after another to revitalize the Bulls Head Neighborhood; the west side area around the intersection of West Main Street, Brown Street and Genesee Street.
None has fully succeeded, but now the city is hoping it has a winner. Mayor Lovely Warren has announced that the 12-acre area will be managed by the Dawson Development Corporation, which will guide development of more housing, renovated businesses and restored parks.
Warren says Dawson has a proven track record of urban revitalization, and is equipped to restore Bulls Head as the western gateway to downtown. The city is putting $10.6 million behind the project.
The city had the Urban Land Institute study what could be done with the area and give it a package of recommendations.
