After an 11th murder in the City of Rochester Wednesday night, the Rochester Police Department says it’s moving to “targeted enforcements” and a victim-oriented response plan in an attempt to curb the surge of violence.
During a Thursday news conference, Police Chief Cynthia Heriott-Sullivan said the department will focus on using data analysis to pinpoint people who commit violent acts, and work with the courts and community to disrupt them.
Deputy Chief Andre Anderson said victim oriented policing includes speaking more with people who are victims of crimes in hopes they can provide information to police. Anderson said there are people who don’t trust police, but they can use that as an opportunity to make adjustments.
Herriott-Sullivan says the department is also focusing on prolific offenders, working to show the courts the pattern of their past offenses and trying to keep them off the streets.
