The City of Rochester has completed demolition of a warehouse on the West Side that went up in a spectacular five-alarm fire Monday night. And the city says it’s working with the residents of 16 homes which had to be evacuated when the fire threatened to engulf them, too.

The city is coordinating emergency shelter for those families around 301 Otis Street where the fire broke out in a warehouse full of wooden pallets. The city says in a statement that the warehouse had been boarded up last month as a vacant property and had 15 outstanding code violations. They included a failed sprinkler system and a partially collapsed roof. But they say it doesn’t appear for now as if the code violations were the cause of the fire.

It remains under investigation by the city’s Arson Task Force.
