The Monroe County Legislature, Rochester City Council and Rochester City School Board all say they’re adopting similar legislation taking a stand against anti-Muslim discrimination.
All three bodies say they’re adopting or have already passed resolutions condemning hate speech and violence against Muslims, noting the long history of Islam in America and supporting the right of Muslim citizens to live in peace.
There are about 20,000 Muslims living in the Rochester area, including a Turkish community. There are also more recent immigrants from Afghanistan, Iraq and other Middle Eastern Countries.
