The Rochester City Council Tuesday night overturned its previous vote to build a new Goodman Section police substation on East Main Street. The long-discussed project was recalled because of the conflict over the death of Daniel Prude.
Council had voted 6-3 on August 18th to borrow more than $12 million to build the $16 million dollar project at East Main and Laura Streets. On September 15th they voted 7-1 to shoot the project down.
Council President Loretta Scott and Councilmembers Mitch Gruber and Mary Lupien introduced the legislation to reconsider, saying the projected needed to be reevaluated in light of Prude’s death while being restrained by police.
