The Rochester City Council voted 8-0 tonight to approve a $32 million school modernization bond.
The funding will allow the City School District to start Phase 2 of the massive city school modernization plan. Over the next five years, a baker’s dozen of Rochester’s school buildings will get complete rebuilds, effectively gutted and completely rebuilt. Monroe High School will be the first and should be finished by the fall of 2017. Most of the funding is from the state, but 20 percent is coming from city taxpayers.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation last week allowing up to $435 million for the maximum project cost. Phase one, renovating 13 other schools, has already been completed.
