Rochester police have ordered the shutdown of the Black Bear Pub on West Ridge Road as part of an executive order issued by Mayor Lovely Warren to help curb gun violence in the city.

The mayor’s order allows the police chief to order the closing of any business where a shooting has taken place and the business has accumulated 12 or more points under the city’s nuisance ordinance over the past six months. The city says the Black Bear Pub has 26 nuisance points, including firearms and weapons violations.

The pub says on its Facebook page that it did the best it could to keep everyone safe, and blamed the RPD for not responding fast enough to a shooting incident on Saturday.

29-year-old Sean Semprie was killed that night when someone shot him as a large crowd gathered outside the bar
