A man who is suing the City of Rochester after he was beaten by police officers is now facing assault charges for allegedly attacking a man earlier this month.
Christopher Pate is one of two people accused of beating the man with a hammer and slashing his face with a razor blade on October 3rd. Pate and Jennifer Shea of Rochester were both arrested and charged with second degree assault. Pate was arraigned and released.
Pate was arrested by Rochester Police in 2018 as a result of mistaken identity. Police confused him with a burglary suspect. Pate suffered a broken bone in his face after being struck by Officer Michael Sippel, who was later convicted of assault.
Pate’s suit against the city for assault and wrongful arrest is pending.
