Two young children suffered minor injuries when a motorist failed to yield at a crosswalk and struck them while they were crossing the street in Canandaigua on Tuesday afternoon.
Canandaigua Police say the children and their grandmother were crossing South Main Street at Coy Street when a car passed several other vehicles that had stopped for them and struck them in the passing lane. Both children, a seven-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl, were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after being flung several feet into the road. Police say their injuries weren’t serious.
The car was driven by 27-year-old Mathew Gambino of Rushville. He was ticketed for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and passing stopped vehicles in a crosswalk.
