Rochester City Prep Charter School will be moving from the former Bausch and Lomb plant on St. Paul Street to 1001 Lake Avenue, the former Nazareth Academy Building.
That’s welcome news to parents and students, who walked out of the school earlier this week and marched to City School District headquarters over concerns about toxic contamination beneath the current building. Groundwater beneath the former industrial plant is contaminated with the solvent TCE, trichloroethylene, which is a known cancer-causer.
Classes have been canceled for next week at City Prep as the school prepares for the move. They hope to reopen January 2nd in the new space.
