A man has been taken to Strong Memorial Hospital after part of a cell phone tower fell on him in Walworth. The victim was flown to Strong with serious injuries after a section of the steel tower rolled off  jack stands that were holding it and landed across the man’s chest.

The section weighed 10,000 pounds or more. The construction crew used their crane to lift it off the victim’s chest before first responders got there. The Lincoln Fire Department chief says the victim was conscious and responding before he was flown to Strong by helicopter, but his injuries are described as life threatening.

The incident happened on a farm off Whitney Road where the owner has leased land to Verizon to put up the tower.
