The Rochester rookie outfielder gets his first call-up to the Twins.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — In another C&C Exclusive, Rochester rookie Zack Granite received his first call-up to the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
Granite was slated to play center field to start a 3-game series against the Syracuse Chiefs on Friday night, however he was scratched from the lineup.
Red Wings manager Mike Quade said in his post-game interview that, “We lost a good player tonight. (Zack Granite) is headed for the majors, so we’re excited about that.”
Granite, along with pitcher Drew Rucinski, were selected to represent the Red Wings and the International League in Wednesday’s All Star game in Tacoma, WA. versus the Pacific Coast League All Stars.
Granite is the IL’s Player of the Month for June. He is Rochester’s first Player of the Month since Chris Colabello in June 2013.
He is the league’s leading hitter with a .360 average and an on base percentage of .904. He has played in 59 games with 236 at bats, 40 runs, 85 hits, 14 doubles, 4 triples, 3 homeer runs, 24 RBI, 116 total bases, 20 walks, 25 strikeouts, and 15 stolen bases in 21 attempts. He was tied for first with teammate Mitch Garver in slugging percentage at .492.
