It’s been a century of service for Catholic Charities of New York, celebrated all through the day with a series of special events for employees, clients and the community.

Catholic charities (small “c”) operated across New York as far back as Catholic parishes were established, but 100 years ago all eight archdioceses of New York combined their charitable programs into one unified operation, affirmed by an act of the State Legislature.

In proclaiming Catholic Charities Day, Governor Andrew Cuomo says the agency has helped millions upon millions of New Yorkers since that day.
The Rochester Catholic Family Center was organized on April 24th, 1917 with the mission to “assist immigrants, find employment for men released from prison, serve unmarried mothers and their infants and provide material goods for the poor.” That mission has evolved into tearing down barriers that keep people from moving into self-sufficiency, helping move them into living wage employment.
