As the New York State Thruway moves to cashless tolling, the Thruway Authority says drivers who don’t have an EZ Pass will be charged more.

Toll booths are being eliminated and dozens of gantries with scanners and cameras will track vehicles by reading their license plates and EZ Pass tags. Drivers are being encouraged to get an EZ Pass. Those who don’t will pay 30 percent higher tolls starting next year. The EZ Pass tolls will stay the same.
