Ten people are being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning after a report of people feeling sick on Michigan Street in Rochester.
The Rochester Fire Department says the incident happened at 28 Michigan Street after a woman called 911 to report a carbon monoxide detector going off and that she had a headache. Rural-Metro Ambulance said it had three ambulances and two supervisors on the scene, treating people on the spot for high carbon monoxide levels. The fire department says it measured 100 parts per million of CO in the house, which is a high level.
Three adults and seven children were taken to hospitals for evaluation.
The cause turned out — indirectly — to be the snow storm. The fire department says a neighbor had been using a snow blower earlier in the day and had accidentally buried the furnace exhaust pipe. That caused a backflow of carbon monoxide into the house.
