A three-way crash just outside Brockport involving a stolen car ended with the arrests of two car thieves on Friday.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says a car stolen in the City of Rochester was heading west on Route 31 in Sweden at a high rate of speed when it slammed into another car at Owens Road. That car was pushed into a third vehicle on Owens Road.
The stolen car ended up in a ditch. Both occupants jumped out and ran. An off-duty Gates police officer witnessed the crash and provided responding deputies and Brockport Police with critical information that led to the capture of the suspects.
The car had been stolen in Rochester on December 17. Arrested were 53-year-old Gary Williams of Rochester, and 61-year-old Raymond Moxley, also of Rochester. Both are charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
Williams has 27 prior felony arrests and seven convictions and had five outstanding warrants. He was on parole after being released from jail in September. Moxley has 24 prior arrests and six convictions. He was on probation at the time.
Both men will now likely be held without bail in the Monroe County Jail as predicate felons.
